S-scale
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010779
A scale used to classify the intensity of solar flares based on their X-ray flux in the 1 to 8 Angstrom wavelength range. It ranges from C (small) to M (medium) to X (large), with each class having a peak flux ten times greater than the preceding one. The S-scale provides a standardized measure of solar flare strength, which can impact Earth's atmosphere and technology.
