Sea state

The general condition of the ocean surface with respect to waves, swell, and wind. It describes the height, period, and direction of waves, which are influenced by local wind conditions and distant weather systems. Sea state is typically reported using a scale such as the Douglas Sea Scale or the Beaufort Wind Scale.
