Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-000402

  1. A state of the atmosphere characterized by the absence of perceptible wind. In meteorological observations, a calm condition is typically reported when the wind speed is less than 1 knot (approximately 1.85 kilometers per hour). On the Beaufort scale, this corresponds to Force 0, where smoke rises vertically.

  2. A weather condition when no air motion (wind) is detected.
