Wind force
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010252
The pressure or push exerted by the wind on an object, proportional to the square of the wind speed. This force is a key consideration in structural engineering for buildings and bridges, and it is also the principle that drives sailboats and wind turbines. The Beaufort scale is a qualitative measure that relates observed sea conditions to wind force, from calm (Force 0) to hurricane (Force 12).
