Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010251
A sudden, brief, and localized gust of wind that is not associated with a larger-scale storm system like a thunderstorm or front. These flurries are caused by small-scale atmospheric instabilities or mechanical turbulence as air flows over uneven terrain or around obstacles. They are characterized by a rapid increase in wind speed for a short duration, followed by a return to calmer conditions.
