State variable

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009211

A physical quantity that describes the macroscopic condition of a system at a given moment, independent of its history. In meteorology, examples include temperature, pressure, density, and humidity, which collectively define the thermodynamic state of an air parcel. These variables are fundamental inputs for atmospheric models and thermodynamic equations.
