State of the sky

A meteorological observation that describes the amount of cloud cover and the general appearance of the sky at a given location and time. This includes categories such as clear, scattered, broken, or overcast, often quantified by octas (eighths) of the sky covered by clouds. It is a standard component of surface weather observations and is used in aviation, forecasting, and climate studies.
