Seasat

The first Earth-orbiting satellite dedicated to oceanographic research, launched by NASA in 1978. It carried a suite of microwave instruments, including a radar altimeter, scatterometer, and synthetic aperture radar, to measure sea surface height, wind speed and direction, and ocean waves. Although its mission was short-lived, it demonstrated the feasibility of satellite oceanography.
