The Upper Atmosphere Research Satellite, a NASA observatory launched in 1991 to study the Earth's upper atmosphere. It measured atmospheric composition, temperature, and winds, providing data on ozone depletion and climate change. UARS carried ten scientific instruments and operated for over 14 years, exceeding its planned mission life.
