Scanning Multifrequency Microwave Radiometer
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008681
A satellite sensor that passively measures microwave radiation emitted and scattered by the Earth's surface and atmosphere across several frequency channels. The data from different channels are combined to derive geophysical parameters such as sea surface temperature, ocean surface wind speed, atmospheric water vapor, and sea ice concentration. This instrument, also known by the abbreviation SCMR, was flown on the Seasat and Nimbus 7 satellites.
