Microwave Sounding Unit
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007290
A satellite-borne instrument that measures the intensity of microwave radiation emitted from the Earth's atmosphere at several frequencies. These measurements are used to derive vertical temperature profiles of the atmosphere, particularly useful for global weather forecasting and climate monitoring. The MSU was a key instrument on NOAA polar-orbiting satellites from 1978 to 2006.
