TOVS

The TIROS Operational Vertical Sounder, a suite of instruments flown on NOAA polar-orbiting satellites designed to measure atmospheric temperature and moisture profiles. It includes the High-resolution Infrared Radiation Sounder (HIRS), the Microwave Sounding Unit (MSU), and the Stratospheric Sounding Unit (SSU). Data from TOVS are used for weather forecasting and climate monitoring.
