Toussaint's formula
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009727
A simplified, linear approximation for calculating the air temperature at a given altitude within the troposphere. The formula assumes a constant sea-level temperature of 15°C and a uniform lapse rate of 6.5°C per kilometer of altitude gain. This provides a quick estimate but is less accurate than the multi-layered models of the International Standard Atmosphere, which account for varying lapse rates in different atmospheric layers.
