Hyperspectral sounder
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006384
A remote sensing instrument that measures radiation across hundreds of narrow, contiguous spectral channels, providing highly detailed information about the vertical structure of the atmosphere. These sounders are used on satellites to retrieve precise profiles of temperature, moisture, and trace gases. Examples include the Atmospheric Infrared Sounder (AIRS) and the Cross-track Infrared Sounder (CrIS).
