Hypochlorous acid
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006385
A weak acid formed when chlorine dissolves in water, playing a role in atmospheric chemistry as a reactive species. It can be produced through the photolysis of molecular chlorine or the reaction of chlorine radicals with water vapor. This compound contributes to the oxidation capacity of the atmosphere and can participate in ozone depletion cycles in certain conditions.
