Odd chlorine

The sum of all chlorine-containing chemical species in the stratosphere that can participate in catalytic ozone destruction cycles. These species include atomic chlorine (Cl), chlorine monoxide (ClO), and chlorine nitrate (ClONO2), among others. Odd chlorine is primarily derived from the breakdown of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and other anthropogenic compounds.
