Odd-oxygen system

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007671

The set of chemical reactions involving atomic oxygen (O) and ozone (O3) that govern the abundance of ozone in the atmosphere. This system includes the photolysis of molecular oxygen to produce atomic oxygen, the recombination of atomic oxygen with molecular oxygen to form ozone, and the destruction of ozone by atomic oxygen. Catalytic cycles involving nitrogen, hydrogen, chlorine, and bromine compounds also contribute to the destruction of odd oxygen.
