Nitrate radical

A highly reactive molecule consisting of one nitrogen atom and three oxygen atoms, with an unpaired electron. It forms in the atmosphere primarily at night through the reaction of ozone with nitrogen dioxide. This radical initiates chemical reactions that remove nitrogen oxides and volatile organic compounds from the nocturnal atmosphere.
