Hydroxyl radical
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006360
A highly reactive free radical with the chemical formula OH, often referred to as the 'detergent of the atmosphere.' It is formed primarily through the photolysis of ozone and water vapor. The hydroxyl radical initiates the oxidation of most trace gases in the troposphere, playing a central role in atmospheric self-cleansing processes.
