Acetaldehyde
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003223
An organic compound (CH3CHO) present in the atmosphere as a pollutant and a product of natural processes. It is formed from the oxidation of hydrocarbons, such as ethane and ethanol, and is a precursor to peroxyacetyl nitrate (PAN), a component of photochemical smog. Acetaldehyde is removed from the atmosphere primarily through photolysis and reaction with the hydroxyl radical (OH).
