Oxidizing capacity of atmosphere
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007767
The ability of the atmosphere to cleanse itself of pollutants and natural emissions through chemical reactions, primarily involving oxidation. This capacity is largely determined by the concentrations of key atmospheric oxidants, such as the hydroxyl radical (OH), ozone (O3), and nitrate radical (NO3). A higher oxidizing capacity means faster removal of many atmospheric trace gases.
