Hydroperoxyl radical
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006345
A reactive chemical species, with the formula HO₂, that is an intermediate in atmospheric chemistry. It is formed from the reaction of a hydrogen atom with an oxygen molecule or from the reaction of a formyl radical with oxygen. The hydroperoxyl radical participates in catalytic cycles that produce and destroy ozone in the troposphere and stratosphere, and it also reacts with nitric oxide to form nitrogen dioxide and a hydroxyl radical.
