Echo sounder

An instrument that uses sound waves to measure the depth of water or to detect objects beneath the surface. It transmits a sound pulse and measures the time it takes for the echo to return from the seabed or a submerged object. This device is primarily used in oceanography and hydrography for bathymetric mapping.
