Sigma-theta

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008866

A measure of the potential temperature of a parcel of air, adjusted for its salinity. This parameter is particularly useful in oceanography for analyzing water mass stability and mixing processes, as it accounts for both temperature and salt content effects on density. It is expressed in degrees Celsius.
