Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008867

The normalized radar cross-section per unit area of a distributed target, often expressed in decibels. In remote sensing, it quantifies the backscattering strength of a surface, such as the ocean or land, to a radar signal. This parameter is used to derive information about surface roughness, wind speed over the ocean, or soil moisture.
