Vertical coordinate system
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009995
A method for specifying the vertical position of a point in the atmosphere, typically used in atmospheric models and observations. Common systems include geometric height, pressure, potential temperature, or sigma coordinates (normalized pressure). The choice of coordinate system depends on the specific application and the atmospheric processes being studied.
