Height vertical coordinate

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006209

A system for specifying the vertical position in the atmosphere using geometric height or geopotential height as the primary variable. This coordinate system is straightforward to interpret physically, as it directly relates to altitude above a reference surface. However, it can be less convenient than pressure coordinates for certain atmospheric dynamics calculations.
