Height pattern

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006208

The spatial distribution of geopotential height contours on a constant pressure surface in the atmosphere. These patterns reveal the location of ridges (high pressure) and troughs (low pressure), which dictate large-scale atmospheric flow and weather systems. A common height pattern analyzed is the 500-millibar height pattern.
