Geopotential topography

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005932

The representation of atmospheric pressure surfaces by their geopotential height above mean sea level. These charts depict the undulations of constant pressure levels, such as 500 hPa or 850 hPa, across a geographical area. The contours on a geopotential topography map indicate areas of higher or lower pressure at a given altitude, providing insight into atmospheric flow patterns and weather systems.
