Baric topography

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003803

The representation of atmospheric pressure fields on constant pressure surfaces, typically depicted by contours of geopotential height. This method provides a three-dimensional view of atmospheric pressure systems and flow patterns, which is particularly useful for analyzing upper-air dynamics. For example, 500-millibar charts show the height of the 500 mb surface above sea level.
