Contour chart
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004651
A meteorological map that displays lines connecting points of equal value for a specific atmospheric variable, such as pressure, temperature, or geopotential height. These charts are fundamental tools for analyzing weather patterns and forecasting, revealing features like troughs, ridges, and frontal systems. Upper-air contour charts, for instance, show the height of constant pressure surfaces.
