Frontal contour

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005802

A contour line of the height or pressure level of a frontal surface, drawn on a frontal contour chart to show the slope and shape of the front through the lower troposphere. The contours end where the frontal surface meets the ground, which is the surface front on a weather map. Forecasters use these charts to trace a front aloft.
