Hybrid vertical coordinate

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006305

A type of vertical coordinate system used in atmospheric models that combines the advantages of different coordinate types, typically sigma coordinates near the surface and pressure coordinates aloft. This approach allows for better representation of terrain-following flow in the lower atmosphere and smoother pressure surfaces at higher altitudes. It is widely used in numerical weather prediction models.
