Skavler
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008911
Sharp, irregular ridges or wave-like ripples etched onto a snow surface by wind erosion and deposition. These features are typically smaller and more delicate than sastrugi, forming intricate patterns that are oriented perpendicular to the direction of the wind that created them. Skavler are common in polar and alpine regions where persistent winds act on dry, cold snow, creating a finely textured and uneven surface.
