Sling thermometer
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008937
A type of psychrometer used to measure atmospheric humidity, consisting of two thermometers, one dry-bulb and one wet-bulb, mounted together on a frame that can be whirled rapidly. The whirling motion provides adequate ventilation for the wet-bulb thermometer, promoting evaporation and cooling. The difference between the dry-bulb and wet-bulb temperatures is used to calculate relative humidity and dew point.
