Snow banner

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008968

A plume of snow blown off a mountain ridge or peak by strong winds, often appearing as a flag-like formation extending downwind. This phenomenon occurs when loose snow is lifted and carried by high winds, making the ridge line visible from a distance. Snow banners are indicators of strong winds at high elevations and can contribute to snow redistribution.
