Sou'easter

A wind that blows from the southeast, especially a strong, persistent one associated with a storm or distinct weather pattern. In many coastal regions, the name is given to gales from this direction that bring characteristic weather, such as heavy precipitation. For example, in New England, a sou'easter is a cyclonic storm bringing rain or snow, contrasting with the nor'easter which brings cold air from the northeast.
