Suroet

A persistent southwest wind on the Atlantic coast of France, in the English Channel and off Flanders, usually bringing cold rain. The name comes from the French for southwest, sud-ouest, and the wind is also spelled suroit. It is the French counterpart of the sailors' sou'wester and, like it, comes from the quadrant between south and west.
