A strong wind or gale that blows from the south, often bringing a sudden drop in temperature and stormy weather. The term is most frequently used in Australia and New Zealand to describe the passage of a cold front moving northward. One notable example is the Southerly Buster, a violent, squally wind that affects the southeastern coast of Australia, particularly the Sydney region, during the summer.
