Splitting convective storm
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009156
A thunderstorm that divides into two distinct cells, a left-moving and a right-moving storm, as it propagates. This phenomenon occurs when vertical wind shear interacts with the storm's updraft, causing it to rotate and split. The right-moving storm is usually stronger and can produce severe weather, including tornadoes.
