Sugar berg
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009372
An iceberg that is in an advanced state of decay, characterized by a porous and granular appearance resembling packed snow or sugar. This texture results from the repeated freezing and thawing of meltwater within the iceberg's cracks and pores, which weakens its internal structure. Sugar bergs are friable and can disintegrate rapidly and unexpectedly, posing a hazard to navigation.
