Tornado cyclone
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009699
A mesocyclone that is strong enough and rotating rapidly enough to produce a tornado. This rotating updraft within a supercell thunderstorm provides the necessary conditions for the formation of a tornado. Not all mesocyclones produce tornadoes, but a tornado cyclone is the direct precursor to a tornadic event.
