Weighting

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010200

The application of numerical coefficients to a set of data points to assign them different degrees of influence on a summary statistic. In ensemble forecasting, different model runs may be weighted based on their past performance or other factors before being combined into a single forecast. For example, a model with a better historical track record for a specific region might receive a higher weight than other models in the ensemble.
