Chill unit
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004274
A quantitative measure used in horticulture to account for the chilling requirements of plants, particularly fruit trees, to overcome dormancy. Unlike simple chill hours, chill units often assign different weighting factors to temperatures within the effective chilling range, recognizing that some temperatures are more effective than others. Several models exist for calculating chill units, such as the Utah Model or the Dynamic Model.
