Williwaw

A sudden, violent squall of cold, dense air that descends from high coastal terrain to the sea. These katabatic winds are unpredictable and can change direction abruptly, posing a hazard to marine navigation. Williwaws are characteristic of high-latitude regions with steep mountains near the coast, such as the Aleutian Islands, Greenland, and the Strait of Magellan.
