Collar locator
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000748
A downhole wireline tool that detects the magnetic signature of casing collars, which are the threaded connections between individual joints of casing. The tool generates a signal at each collar, creating a log that provides an accurate depth reference within the wellbore. This casing collar locator (CCL) log is used to correlate depth with open-hole logs and to precisely position other tools, such as perforating guns or bridge plugs, relative to the formation.
