Depth correlation
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001012
The process of aligning the measured depth of a wireline logging tool with the known depths of geological formations or casing features in a well. This is achieved by running a correlation log, such as a gamma ray or casing collar locator (CCL), and matching its signature to a reference log from a previous run. Accurate depth correlation is required for precise placement of perforations, packers, and other downhole equipment relative to the reservoir interval.
