Depth conversion

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001011

The process of transforming seismic reflection data from the domain of two-way travel time to the domain of true vertical depth. This transformation requires a velocity model that describes how fast seismic waves travel through different subsurface layers. The accuracy of the resulting depth-based image or structural map is directly dependent on the quality of the velocity model used for the conversion, which is calibrated using well data and velocity analyses.
