f-k domain
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001442
A two-dimensional transform of seismic data from the time-space domain to the frequency-wavenumber domain. This transformation separates seismic energy based on its frequency (f) and spatial wavenumber (k), which is related to apparent velocity. It is commonly used for noise attenuation, such as removing ground roll or multiples, by identifying and filtering specific f-k components.
