Tail mute
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003753
A mute that zeroes the late part of the traces, especially on far offsets, where the signal has fallen below the noise or late-arriving noise dominates. It is defined by a curve of time against offset, and everything later than the curve is removed. It complements the front-end mute, which removes the early part of the traces containing the direct arrival, refractions and NMO stretch.
